The Family Advocate assists the family in
Problem Solving Lowering the stress level in the home Building feelings of confidence and self-worth Teaching parenting a coping skills The Family Advocate offers parents the opportunity to experience constructive behavior through
Attentive listening Caring encouragement Special outings It is the establishment of a trusting relationship that eventually helps bring about change in the family. As the parents' basic needs are met, they are better able to meet their childrens' needs.
BECOMING A VOLUNTEER FAMILY ADVOCATE
Attend the training sessions
These sessions can be tailored to meet your schedule. After completing the training, you are not obligated to become a Family Advocate.
Complete an application, and interview with Center Staff Commit to one year of service, one hour per week.
